The close focus distance on this lens is usually the factor that keeps it on the shelf in favor of the 12-40 or 60mm Macro for me. Seriously, it weighs just 116g and is only 56 x 46mm –that's barely the size of two pocket tins of lip balm!

Photohounds is completely correct to point out that, if you view/print/compare the images at the same final output size, F1.

Small but mighty” is a phrase you’ve probably heard before, and it’s very much applicable to the Olympus 45mm f/1. However, for the best value lens that delivers peak performance in an ultra compact package, look no further. I read a lot of obsession about background blur, but whenever there is some blur on the actual subject, I can't help to wonder how the shot would have been with a little more DoF. How does the lens perform, is it really as light as Nikon claims, is there any chromatic aberration? The panorama was composed from nine different photos, all taken using an Olympus PEN E-PL1 camera and M.Once again, the PRO lens is a little sharper when both lenses are set to their respective maximum apertures, and noticeably sharper when both are set to f/1. One of the cool things about this lens (and m4/3 lenses in general) is that the MFD (minimum focusing distance) is fairly short at only 0. Corner shading isn't really a factor for this lens - the only point it is even noteworthy is when the lens is used wide open at ƒ/1.

uses Olympus' MSC (Move-Still-Compatible) technology, making the lens fast and near-silent to autofocus; the lens focuses between close-focus and infinity in less than a second. uses a pure fly-by-wire focusing mechanism, whereas the PRO lens almost behaves like a manual focus lens when its focus ring is pulled back into MF mode due to the traditional hard stops at each end of the focusing range. Digital Camera World is part of Future US Inc, an international media group and leading digital publisher. If you’re looking for the softest and most incredible bokeh, I’d say the big brother to this lens, the Olympus 45mm f/1. Based on what we're seeing in our sample images, their efforts have been successful - the Olympus M.I love working with all kinds of businesses and creative people in various industries to help them visually achieve their goals. If you are looking for a short tele prime and you don't need macro, look no further, this is the one to get. I currently spend 10-14 hours a day working on this site and the only way that I can pay for it is with your help, so thank you! He's also a Micro Four Thirds shooter, so when we were looking for someone to test out the E-M5 II in the real world with us, we immediately thought of James. There are a lot of photo/video cameras that have found a role as B-cameras on professional film productions or even A-cameras for amateur and independent productions.

We shoot both images using the default JPEG settings and manual white balance of our test bodies, so the images should be quite consistent from lens to lens. ISO 1600 in bad light is essentially how far you can go with that camera and DPreview took it right there. It’s also designated as movie and stills compatible, meaning it’s nearly silent and great for videographers.Incidentally, the lens works just as well on Panasonic’s bodies, although of course with those you don’t get IS (I didn’t miss it. Or pay less for an older MF lens that probably won’t be as sharp, slower to focus (still not a fan of MF on the Micro 4/3 cameras as I find it slow and hit or miss) and larger.
