About this deal

Some years after the end of World War 1, she decides to take a spiritual pilgrimage of sorts to the Scottish Island of Iona. You’ll only have to do this once—after your accounts are connected, you can sign in using your Ancestry sign in or your Find a Grave sign in. After her mother died in 1898, she was placed in the care of well-to-do tea dealer Thomas Pratt Ling, her maternal grandfather, and lived with him and his family at Leigham Holme, Leigham Court Road, Streatham. Netta claimed that the statue was cursed but Professor Fornario, a rational man of science told his daughter that she was ridiculous.

She died on the island of Iona in Scotland in November 1929 under mysterious circumstances, with some other occultists claiming she was the victim of a spiritual attack and Dion Fortune blaming Moina Mathers (recently deceased). Not surprisingly, many of the more lurid aspects of this case, such as the scratch-marks on Netta’s naked body, were the invention of sensationalist press. Performances are in the Walls Hall on Monday 13 June, and at the Garrison Theatre on Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 June. Her body was completely naked apart from a long black cloak and she was positioned either near or on top of a "Cross shape" carved in the hillside. When she didn’t appear for breakfast the next morning, no alarm was raised, as it was common for her to keep to herself. Others believe that Netta may have been pursued by somebody she had known in London, and there were rumours of her being seen in the company of a mysterious cloaked figure, shortly before her death.

Emma tells us of the speculation around a cleansing ritual gone wrong and also of marks on the body that may suggest a more sinister end. Dion actually went further and accused Moina Mathers, leader of the Alpha et Omega Temple (following her husbands death) of the murder of Miss Fonario through psychic attack. Some come to pray in the little stone abbey and visit the Reilig Odhrain where the Kings of Scotland lie buried in an earth so sacred it purifies sin. To further compound Mrs MacRae’s alarm, Netta said that on such occasions no medical help must ever be sought.Mixing fiction with real events - the unexplained and controversial death of Netta Fornario, a remarkable young lady closely linked to the inner circle of the Occult Society of the Golden Dawn. Halliday also points to reports of mysterious blue lights seen in the area where she was found, and that letters of “strange character” were found amongst her belongings and passed to the Procurater-Fiscal, never to be seen again.

All of these kinds of tale touch something universal in us, something subconscious that is tied up with our own fear of death, moral degradation, and loss of control; something that seems at the same time to be inextricably linked to our most dangerous desires. IN CONCLUSION: On going over a lot of this my gut feeling is that maybe Netta built up demons in her own mind.Even though the island was only tiny and could be traversed completely in less than a day, it took this group two full days to locate Netta's lifeless body.

It wasn’t until the afternoon of the 19th that her body was found in a slight depression in the moor between Malach and Loch Staonaig next to what is said to have been a faery mound. Stories of strange blue lights were reported to have been seen near her body along with a man in a cloak. No police investigation was carried out as the presiding physician noted the cause of death as heart failure from exposure. Being a member of the Golden Dawn's remnants, Netta Fornario is a user of Golden-style Magic, though her specialities and primary tools are not known. With new insight into Netta's background and intuition leading the way, a personal interest develops into compelling argument.Maybe trying to perform some occult ritual that would get her closer to the fairies she had been looking for.
