About this deal

Some of the data that are collected include the number of visitors, their source, and the pages they visit anonymously. I also felt that Abigail let Rad off with way too much-I'm not sure I would have been that forgiving. Was concerned my second experience with “Learning to Swim “ would not be as satisfying , but it too earned five stars . review: Quirky book, follows a formula I have seen before - shy quiet lonely person gets drawn into a colourful family, and eventually they are treated as a member of the family, before some tragedy results in their total ejection and rejection.

I am so glad I did, I really enjoyed the story and the way events unfold from the perspective of Abigail, the main character. The Radley’s were extraordinary, captivating creatures transplanted from a bohemian corner of North London to outer suburbia, and the young Abigail found herself drawn into their magic circle: the eccentric Frances, her new best friend; Frances’ mother, the liberated, headstrong Lexi; and of course the brilliant, beautiful Rad.Perfect holiday reading, but I don't mean by that to disparage the writing or brand it as merely lightweight. Raised in a very conservative household, only child Abigail lives out a dull life with Mother and Father in suburbia filled with net curtains and clipped lawns. The fact that they completely contrasted with her own family is a factor, but it doesn't seem enough. When her three children were teenagers, inspired by their reading habits, she produced two YA novels, Bright Girls (HarperCollins 2009) and Burning Secrets (HarperCollins 2011). Of course, this probably made the book more romantic but I think it could have been just as good as story with less extraordinary drama.Added to that the story features many ideas that she's used in other novels, an unusual family, an affair, a long lost lover etc. In the present day section too, there seemed to be more going on than was likely - a motor cycle accident, a fire.

I had the sense that Clare Chambers' characters had taken over the plot and then left her in the lurch as to what to do with them. Clare Chambers is a new discovery and I thought the book well written though doubt it would appeal to the average male reader. She manages to do this by describing emotions and a sense of place efficiently without over-describing and for me, balances this perfectly with the amount of dialogue.
