No matter what anyone may say about their Load/Reload or St Anger records and their faults, this is true Metallica and is a credit to the band! Promo copies have a post-manufacture hot-foil gold stamp on the back of the sleeve: "Loaned For Promotion Only.

The 1984 second album from these rifftastic pioneers, Ride The Lightning, is as ferocious as anything they ever recorded, and is now available again on vinyl, fully remastered. The sleeve and cover are both sort of wrecked, and the record is cracked through the first two songs, but it still plays pretty nice! I finally got a copy of this legendary pressing, i had the deluxe boxset and hated the sound, but on this one, everything is well defined, very bright too, maybe lacks a little bit of bass but my god cliff's parts here. Starting in November, one of the albums will be released each month, starting with "Kill 'Em All", as a limited/remastered LP. Trapped Under Ice": that riff is cool, and it is nice to have a solo at the beginning rather than the end, and an excellent thrash solo at that, and as good as this song is, the intensity starts to fade a great deal halfway through the song, like, a lot.

Although rooted in the thrash metal genre, the album showcased the band's musical growth and lyrical sophistication. Fight Fire With Fire": That acoustic intro belongs on a power metal album, and definitely not the opening to this song.

The set starts out with two tunes that would have been right at home on Kill 'em All, but the next two are slower and more involved.

So, trying to figure out the difference between this silver label version and the gray label version that was released 3 days later, according to Discogs. I'm convinced that (the songs) "Escape," and "Creeping Death," weren't made by Metallica, but by a symphonic metal band playing speed metal.I don’t understand some of the negative feedback Chalkys get - I have never had any problem and would absolutely recommend them. My only minor niggle is that a cd that is in a cardboard sleeve maybe could do with being sent out in sturdier packaging. Although 75,000 copies were initially pressed for the American market, the album sold half a million by November 1987. Many rock publications have ranked Ride the Lightning on their best album lists, saying it had a lasting impact on the genre.

FWIW, I purchased it new and while it came with the merchandise flyer it also came in a clear plastic inner, not the printed one.I notice it most on Fate to Black, there seems to be some strange harmonics during the clean tone/acoustic guitars on the Walmart version. Instead of relying heavily on fast tempos as on its debut 'Kill 'Em All', Metallica broadened its approach by employing acoustic guitars, extended instrumentals, and more complex harmonies. Cliff's bass cuts through the mix here, so if you like that growly bass of his, this is the version to own.
