Neil Sedaka released a version of the song in 1984 that reached No. 37 on the adult contemporary chart. [33] Rhythm Of The Rain" was written by The Cascades lead singer John Gummoe, who told Songfacts the story in October 2008: "I wrote 'Rhythm of the Rain' over a period of time, but the lyrics began while I was serving in the US Navy aboard the USS Jason AR8. I was standing a mid watch on the bridge while we were underway to Japan. We were sailing up in the north pacific and it was raining heavily and the seas were tossing.B.J. It also involves building up skills for children to write about an event that happens in the forest to the main character where he sees something scary in the bushes, runs away and then realises it was only a small animal such as a bunny or an owl. He rhetorically asks the rain for answers, but ultimately he wishes it would 'go away' and let him cry alone.

The song was adapted into French (under the title "En écoutant la pluie", meaning "Listening to the Rain") by Richard Anthony. It was recorded by Sylvie Vartan, who released it as a single in 1963.
