About this deal

The basis of the book is based around the discovery a suitcase full of cash under the bed of 3 recently deceased father -The story gradually unfolds to explore all that comes along with what money can do to people and how it can affect families and relationships Money is something we can all relate to. As is death. And the combination of both, and the ramifications of the viewpoints of those left behind, are explosive. For a story about an apparently ordinary suburban family, this is every bit as exhilarating as the recent James Patterson I’ve just finished, but with better characterisation and a twist worthy of a thriller. We are also a founding member of IAPPR, the International Association of Professional Probate Researchers, Genealogists and Heir Hunters which aims to provide a single, authoritative voice for global probate research industry professionals and has an impressive list of international member companies. Well, as the author I would say that the book is actually about honesty and integrity and what they look like to you.

Brimful of emotion – a wonderful plot, and characters that you are rooting for, even when you know you shouldn’t. An Unwanted Inheritance is that gem of a thing: a story to truly lose yourself in – I LOVED IT!” – Faith Hogan, bestselling author of The Ladies’ Midnight Swimming Club The matter finally resolves itself in a totally unexpected way, when the source of the cash is revealed. But at what cost? From million-copy bestselling author Imogen Clark comes a story of three siblings and a suitcase full of cash. Will the unexpected windfall tear them apart? Imogen gets inspired to write by asking herself ‘what if?’, and if the answer is an interesting one, then she begins jotting ideas down. Sometimes the ideas just go nowhere. But sometimes they will sit in her head for months or even years at a time before she’s able to work out how they might make a book. Caroline is married to Max, the eldest son. She found the money. Her instincts, and that of her husband, are to keep everything above board.A disclaimer must apply to the whole gift, so you can’t refuse part of the estate while accepting some of it and the heir must not have received any of the gift before the person died. If you disclaim your inheritance, this means you can’t ever become the legal owner so it is a step that should be taken after due consideration. Neither can the person who disclaims the inheritance then decide who receives his or her share among the remaining beneficiaries.

The story is about the Frost family, close knit and loving, who discover a large quantity of money stashed under their father's bed when he dies unexpectedly. No one knows where the money has come from or why it is there but everyone knows exactly what they should do with it. The difficulty is that none of them agree about what that should be, and they all have secret motivations that they'd rather not share with their siblings. The decision as to what to do with this unexpected windfall poses a moral dilemma and differing points of view which threaten to destroy the tight bonds of family and friendship. They each have a valid reason for what they each think should be done with the cash which they suspect may not have been come by honestly. There are also secrets which must be kept secret and they are desperate to protect their father's reputation. The way each character relates to each other and the people around them from close friends to casual acquaintances tells the reader a great deal. By the close of the story, I knew what I wanted to happen to the money but I could not see how it could come about. Thankfully, I can report without spoilers that Imogen guides this story expertly, to reach an utterly satisfying and clever solution. The tale that she pieces together is unsettling and confusing, and seems to have been patched over with lies. However who can possibly tell her the truth? With her dad sinking deeper into Alzheimer’s and her brother hesitant to help, it appears she will never get her questions answered. One thing is certain, however: somebody knows more than they let on.
