About this deal

The lager is described prominently on the front of the can as ‘Strong Lager’ and the 9.0% alc vol (which is stronger than a typical lager) is displayed prominently in a large type. Both of these emphasise the alcoholic strength rather than providing factual information about the higher alcoholic content. Complainant Not all drinks firms take the same approach. Two years ago, Heineken, the third-largest global brewer, first diluted and then halted production of 8.5 per cent White Lightning, saying that the cider "continued to attract negative headlines and is still associated with a park-bench mentality".

Mr Swain added: "We need support and help from the breweries and government to end the easy availability of 9% lagers, and to accept that the cost of cheap, super strength is, in human terms, simply too high." Tennent’s lager is 4% abv. Which is quite low for a lager, to be honest, their Tennent’s Light Lager is even lower at 3.5% abv. On the other end of the scale is Tennent’s Super which is 8% (though as I mentioned earlier it is now brewed in Luton). Is Tennent’s Lager Gluten-Free? The main popular super strength lagers at 9%, all brewed by major drinks companies, include Tennent's Super, Carlsberg Special Brew, Skol Super and Kestrel Super.

Crag_1975 added: "I was in Rome last year and Tennents Super is considered a Premium beer. Fancy restaurants with Super proudly displayed on shelves." Offshore Island deliveries will take longer than two days including Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Scottish Highlands and Islands and Scilly Isles. One half-litre can of the drink, dubbed Vitamin T, contains four-and-a-half units of alcohol - more than the recommended daily maximum for either a man or a woman. The lager was once famous for the design of its cans, which featured photos of various female models printed onto the side, known affectionately as "The Lager Lovelies". This feature was used by Tennent's up until the final campaign in 1989. Today, authentic original Lager Lovely cans are sought after among collectors. The can design is now a plain yellow colour, with the company's trademark large red "T" featuring prominently. A banner heads the can, reading: "Scotland's favourite beer, only ever brewed at Wellpark Brewery, Glasgow". The original brewery was founded in 1556 by Robert Tennent, a farmer and professional Maltman on the banks of the Molendinar Burn. Hugh and Robert Tennent then founded the current brewery in 1740, before Hugh's descendant (who was also named Hugh) introduced Tennent's lager in 1885, it later became the first lager to be produced in the UK on a commercial scale.

Responding to Sam's Tweet, @monthekillie wrote: "I was in Milan for the derby in 2019, they had Tennents Super on draught in a bar called ‘Friends pub’ they love the stuff." Jeremy Swain, the charity's chief executive, said: "Our campaign is not a moralistic one. Our intention is simply to highlight the impact of the super-strength lager phenomenon that has developed over the past 20 years and the entirely unacceptable cull of people whose deaths are hastened through consuming these products." The company also went on to produce the first draught lager in 1924, the first canned lager in 1935 and the first keg lager in 1963. Lobbyists say super strength drinks contribute to premature deaths and the phenomenon of 'young-olds' where people exhibit the health problems of people 20-30 years older than their biological age. Tennent’s Lager was based on Bohemian Pilsners, so I can say with confidence that Czech pilsners would be a great substitution. The table below contains all postcodes on a two day service. J. & R. Tennent was acquired by Charrington United Breweries in 1963, and in 1966 formally merged with United Caledonian Breweries, Charrington's other Scottish subsidiary, to form Tennent Caledonian Breweries. The new company's brewing was concentrated at the Wellpark Brewery and the Heriot Brewery in Edinburgh. Wellpark was redeveloped between 1965 and 1968, but Heriot was demolished in the 1990s. [5] In 1967, Charringtons merged with Bass to form the Bass Charrington Group. It was later bought by the Belgian brewer Interbrew (now InBev) in June 2000, which became part of Anheuser-Busch InBev in 2008. The social side effects of super strength are of such concern to Westminster and Ealing Councils that they have persuaded large supermarkets to remove these drinks from their shelves. He said: "Living here I actually forgot about the existence of the Tennent's Super, because in Italy I drank it so much that I didn't really remember much of my teenage years.
