JPEG. NGC6318 (Bennett 91a) is a mag. 11.8 open cluster described as fairly large (4'), rich in stars, round, gradually brighter middle, and containing stars of magnitude 12 to 14. This cluster begins to resolve in a 6", but a 10" doubles the cluster's size from the diameter listed, and reveals a little north-south elongation. Cut up the safe version and added in pegs. ...Allowed for a 400mm hook from 150mm cubed print area. ... Some of Māui's most renowned feats included causing birds (which were invisible to mortal eyes) to become visible. In this long ago, forgotten time, the music of the birds delighted Māui. He observed them with keen interest, their varied and beautiful plumage which adorned the foliage of fragrant trees, and their melodious music, however, no one else could join him in enjoying what was apparent to his vision. For, although Māui's friends could hear their wonderful bird songs, none perceived the true source of the sounds. Māui felt compassion for his friends, for humanity, and their inability to behold with their eyes the colorful, musical creatures as they flitted from tree to tree, so, Māui caused the creatures to become visible to the naked eye. [6] Creation of Hawai'i [ edit ] Modern fish hooks, which were once almost solely made of whale bones but are now nearly entirely made of more prominent and ethically produced cattle bones. There are some exceptions, though; occasionally, one can carve hooks out of whale bones that have washed up on the shore.

The summer sky contains one of the most extraordinarily shaped constellations. Scorpius, the scorpion has a shape that even those people with no imagination at all can see. Located near the brightest section of the Milky Way, when Scorpius sits low in the Southwest it appears the creature is being punished by hot boiling water flowing from the tea pot (Sagittarius). You can see the steam (the Milky Way) rising above it.Keep collections to yourself or inspire other shoppers! Salmond, Anne (2010). Aphrodite's Island. Berkeley: University of California Press. pp. 317. ISBN 9780520261143.Regarded as a symbol for safe passage over water , the makau , or fishhook, brings good fortune and strength to those who wear it. Also used as OluKai’s logo, the makau has held deep cultural significance in Hawai’i and throughout the Polynesian Triangle for over a millennium. Traditionally carved from bone, wood, stone and coral, different makau were crafted to catch every single type of fish and sea creature; a craft which was often passed down through generations. Gary’s traditional Hawaiian fish hooks—the materials, construction, and attention to detail—are an important source for perpetuating this important and wise indigenous knowledge. The octopus lure, which resembles a long, curved canine tooth, preys upon the octopus’ instinct to grab and hold onto the object, so that the angler can pull the octopus off the reef and into the boat. Many fish hooks were made using two pieces lashed together, which created a stronger hook for securing bigger fish. Furthermore, materials like turtle shells were sought after for their strength and flexibility once crafted into a fish hook. Gary even grows his own gourds and other Hawaiian plants for cordage and dye, so that his work is the best possible replica of the traditional fish hook, offering a steward of the knowledge found within.

M4 or NGC6121 (Bennett 75, mag. 5.9, size 26'), is described by Dreyer as an open cluster. We now call it a loose globular. He also describes a bar of 8-10 stars across the center of the cluster. This is visible in fairly small instruments (I have seen it with a 3"). He also called it extremely rich (for an open cluster). It is actually rather star poor for a globular. It is located 1.3° west of Antares. When he was finished, Māui took a jawbone which his ancestor Murirangawhenua had given him, and bound it securely to the line. Early the next morning, Māui took his fishing line and secreted himself in the hull of his brothers' canoe.
