However things don't go to plan when she gets paired up with Dave a lazy food loving unicorn who's very unique and the pair have a challenge becoming besties to be able to compete in quests and win medals, will they bond or become trouble? The author makes her world seem fun, though the book is short enough that there is plenty of development available in future books. There are lots of illustrations that help the reader picture the scenery.

Mira: Great! I think we’ve learned lots about you. Now, time for YOU interview ME! Mira, what’s the best thing about Unicorn School? So pleased you asked Dave, that’s a great question! I’d have to say when I first got my school invitation letter I was SUPER EXCITED about winning lots of medals and going on lots of quests. But now I think the best thing about Unicorn School is having you as my Unicorn Best Friend Forever. This is a cute, Easy Chapter book that I think any child could enjoy. There is equal time given to both girl and boy characters, though the main character is a girl. The girls in the book are brave and one boy is timid while the other boy is a slight bully.Dave isn’t quite the sparkly unicorn Mira was expecting to find at the end of the rainbow – he’s more grumpy than glittery, more interested in lunch than magical Quests and he always runs off when Mira tries to ride him – but Mira’s not going to let that get her down. Along with her new friends and their (much more glittery) unicorns, she is determined to be the best at Quests and protect the special unicorn world! De illustraties waren erg leuk gedaan en ik moest vaak lachen wat er gebeurde op ze. De illustrator heeft echt een leuke stijl. Mira Desai is excited, it’s her first day at Unicorn School, the school her older sister Rani attends and she can’t wait to meet her Unicorn partner.

To travel to the school they have to go through a portal, but her sister isn’t very supportive so it’s left to a new student, Raheem, and his dad to teach Mira how to enter and travel to the school. Kirjassa oli myös joitakin yllätysmomentteja, nimittäin kirjassa paljon kahkotun Taikalaukan suhteen. Olin ihan varma, että kaikkien vastoinkäymisten jälkeen Mira ja Teppo kuitenkin pääsisivät mukaan Taikalaukalle, mutta toisin kävi. I like that the author included a little Unicorn BFF quiz and Unicorn jokes at the end of the book, as well as a sneak peek of book 2.
