About this deal

Wax lubes are predominantly made of wax, although they'll have a carrier solvent to help the wax to penetrate into the chain. You could argue that a lube that lasts for many miles on a single application has better green credentials than one that's easily washed away in the rain. A - This is because of the ingredients, if your chain is black it doesn't mean it needs cleaning, it only needs cleaning if there are a lot of dirt particles stuck to the chain (this can happen if you've used too much lube) The Professional lube will last longer than you think in all weather conditions.

On review we found that our chain remained rust-free after our 'garden hose test' that we used to replicate wet weather. The lube itself is biodegradable, and the packaging is made from post consumer resin, derived from recycled materials.Teflon is used in this dry lube to reduce friction and mechanical wear as it penetrates into all the nooks and crannies for complete protection. We’ve had Fenwicks ‘All conditions’ and ‘Wet conditions’ lubes on the go since early spring now, and they’re okay but not outstanding.

As Nash also points out: “Value is an issue — in a bottle of wet lube, 100 percent of the formula will lubricate. Companies soon realised that instead of heating up wax to melt onto a chain, wax could be melted (or rather dissolved) in a solvent. Choosing a bike lube is tricky as there are so many out there that all appear to offer the same qualities. We also liked that, unlike some wet lubes, Green Oil didn't attract too much dirt and grime that can really wear the drivechain.Studies have shown that the type of lube itself makes little difference to the efficiency of a clean chain, although we've looked at whether swapping your chain lube can make you faster. In dry, spring and summer conditions you want to use a lighter lubricant, normally a wax-based ‘dry’ lube. It’s designed not to pick up dust in dry conditions or dirt in wet conditions making it a great for everyday use.

Only been out for 2 smallish rides since applying so can't comment on longevity or performance in the wet but other reviewers suggest it's good. Fenwicks' instructions don't ask for a long period between the first application and the first ride, and I went out within minutes of lubing the chain. In his cycling career Simon has mostly focused on time trialling with a national medal, a few open wins and his club's 30-mile record in his palmares. This trio of products worked a treat, cleaning the chain and sprockets quickly and with very little effort.Well, Fenwicks All Conditions Lube comes very close indeed to being the ideal fit-and-forget chain lubricant. Pour a little of the Fenwicks All Condition Chain Lube from the bottle, and you'll notice that it's not as thick and claggy as some wet lubes. Simon Nash of Green Oil, which makes environmentally friendly lubes, explains: “Wet lube was the original lubricant of choice. Secret formulas mixed in the kitchen often led to chains being dipped in bespoke waxy lubricants overnight. Put it this way – if you want maximum performance but minimum fuss, you'll struggle to find better than Fenwicks All Conditions Lubricant.

You should normally apply lube to a clean, dry chain, so if your chain is dirty, clean it first, then apply a thin stream as you rotate the bike's cranks backwards. for 100ml, Fenwicks is good value for a lubricant that works so well across such a variety of riding conditions.Whichever lube you prefer to use, for the best results Trimnell suggests that you leave the lube on the chain overnight before riding for maximum benefit. This way the drivetrain is far more efficient and you gain extra life out of the whole system, along with no loss of power from the rider. To increase durability and the length of time between applications, this wet lube contains N-Toc, a special refined plant extract that has similar properties to teflon. Total integration with Fenwicks Foaming Chain Cleaner and Fenwicks Chain Cleaning Sponge has led to the most effective method of chain maintenance. It's a bit lighter than many wet lubes, so it soaks into the chain quickly and doesn't become claggy or collect dirt, doesn't wash off in the rain, but is still easy to clean your chain.
