About this deal

The active ingredients in Roseclear, bupirimate, pirimicarb and triforine, are found in other Zeneca pesticides - Nimrod T and Rapid. Main use Controls blight on potato and tomato; celery leaf spot; apple canker; bacterial canker on cherry and plum; peach leaf curl; black currant and gooseberry rust. Its unique characteristics kill aphids (greenfly and blackfly) larvae and adults, in addition to controlling fungus, and protects against further infestations – including new growth.

Where Roses were infected with blackspot the previous season, start spraying in spring, as the first buds burst through. RoseClear Ultra has been shown to be safe for a wide variety of plants, but it is always advisable to test a sample of plants by treating and leaving for a few weeks before treating a large or valuable collection. Our aim is to always encourage a responsible approach to gardening and pest control and we will continue tooffer advice on alternatives to insecticides where they are likely to be helpful. UK legislation requires approval for active ingredients used in all pesticides, including those for home garden use.Products approved in the UK are assigned a registration number, printed on the pack– MAPP numbers for pesticides for use on plants and HSE numbers for household products.

The product, first made and marketed by ICI and cleared for use in 1982, has sold well because it is harmless to beneficial garden insects such as bees and aphid-eating ladybirds while protecting roses and other flowers from black spot and greenfly.Main use For control of powdery mildew on many fruit, ornamentals and vegetables and storage rots of bulbs, corms and tubers. But the Government's Pesticides Safety Directorate began to become concerned in April last year, after the manufacturer submitted data on skin and eye irritation tests carried out on rabbits. I will 'fess up - I used RCU once last year on a rose that had bad mildew after being buried under builders' rubble for months. Luckily most of the gardens I now tend do not have roses - managed to eradicate most of them over the years, I can't stand 'em, far too much maintenance, all that spraying, feeding, deadheading and pruning, not to mention getting stabbed by the thorns. I'd worry more about bees - don't spray open flowers, and always spray at dusk, when the bees have stopped working, and preferably only use the product (or any insecticide) when essential.
